ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Thinker Maker Space of CYENS presents “DIGITAL GUTS”, a workshop by resident artist duo Post-Organic Bauplan, integrated by Josefina Maro and Salvador Marino.

The workshop focuses on researching the interconnectivity between bodies and digital devices in a collective space for experimentation and critical thinking about conceptions of the body and its relation with different technologies. Participants will be introduced with different electronic components as we will create specific devices together. We will explore how to build and program them using open source platforms. These devices will have the ability to create different body stimuli using different types of sensors. Through tools of improvisation and dance we will investigate, individually and collectively, the relation between body and digital devices. Seeing the devices as opportunities for exploration of the body. Working on the different possibilities that can appear when we understand the body as a moving field.

Workshop audience:
The workshop is aimed at people with curiosity/interest/relation to dance, digital art, programming and/or performance, who want to research on the creation of digital devices and explore with their corporeality.

Requirements:

  • Participants are encouraged to bring any small personal items from home, which will be integrated with other components to craft the robots.
  • Previous knowledge on dance or programming are not required.

Workshop Aims:

  • Introduce the use of Arduino, both software and hardware, to connect biological and digital data.
  • Explore digital and electronic tools for the creation and development of body sensing devices and to open the body to new sensitivities.
  • Encourage and support participants in the conception of their own projects and devices by supporting their exploration and creativity, fostering exchange in a collective frame.
  • Investigate the dynamic relationship between bodies and the devices created during the workshop through engaging dance exercises.
  • Open the space for dialogue on the significance of developing devices for body exploration. Delve critically into the complexities of technology usage, discussing its potential and drawbacks.

Post-Organic Bauplan
ABOUT POST-ORGANIC BAUPLAN

Post-Organic Bauplan (ARG/DEU) is a duo collective integrated by Josefina Maro, choreographer, performer and producer, and Salvador Marino, Dr. in Evolutionary Biology and interdisciplinary artist. Post-Organic Bauplan works on the development of robotic prostheses and movement based research, to transgress the practices that shape our experiences and perception of the body. The duo wants to disembody the idea of the body as natural, gived and unmodifiable. In their work Post-Organic Bauplan explores the relationship between analog, digital and robotic bodies, expressed through live performances, installations and video works.
