ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Thinker Maker Space of CYENS presents Laser-Cut Assembly Lamps: From Design to Fabrication, a workshop by resident artist Camila Calegari Marques. Participants will explore the design of table lamps through digital fabrication using laser cutting. The session will address issues related to designing for digital fabrication, as well as the tools, materials, and manufacturing processes involved.

 

The workshop is organized by the Municipality of Nicosia, the CYENS – Thinker Maker Space, and the Cyprus Energy Agency, within the framework of the European project HUB-IN (HUBS of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the transformation of Historic Urban Areas), which aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Historic Urban Areas (HUA), while preserving their unique social and cultural identity and the environment.

 

Workshop audience:

  • Designers or anyone interested in parametric design and digital fabrication

 

Workshop outcomes:

  • Explore parametric design and digital fabrication

  • Create a bespoke lamp tailored to specific design parameters

 

Optional equipment:

  • Participants can bring their own laptops if they wish to work parallel or experiment on a design of their own

 

Workshop Breakdown:

Part 1 – Creative Process:

  • Presentation of parametric design possibilities with Grasshopper
  • Selection of designs to be fabricated
  • Preparation of drawings for laser cutting

Part 2 – Digital Technology:

  • Laser cutting
  • Assembly of the lamps
Camila Calegari Marques
ABOUT Camila Calegari Marques

Camila Calegari Marques is a Brazilian architect and urban planner with experience in parametric design, digital fabrication, and low environmental impact architectural projects, including using local materials, especially bamboo and wood. Her career includes collaborations with SUBdV Arquitetura and Estúdio Guto Requena in Brazil, Tacuara Diseño en Bambú in Colombia, Jaime Peña Studio in Mexico, Bamboo Pure in Indonesia (remotely), and Blue Temple inMyanmar (remotely). She regularly teaches online and in-person courses and workshops, most recently at PUC Minas, Digital Futures, AAVS-SP, SESC, and Escola da Cidade. She holds a master’s degree in computational design from the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña and is a graduate of Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. Currently, she is a resident at Thinker Maker Space of the FabLab in Nicosia, Cyprus.
