Leontios Toumpouris is an artist currently based in Nicosia.
Toumpouris constructs linguistic speculations and instances of interaction. He draws from painting, alchemical discourse and making to configure his work in sculpture, site-responsive installations, text, sound and performative gestures. Clay’s fragility, porous state and tactility allow him to construct narratives of interplay within exhibition and workshop-oriented formats, indicative of his ongoing interest in body and matter correlations. Creating circumstances of shared agency and initiating dialogue, Toumpouris engages with the public through collaborations with organisations to produce projects and events that encompass talks, screenings and workshops.
In 2016 Toumpouris graduated from Glasgow School of Art’s MLitt Sculpture and from the Painting department of Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009.
Recent solo exhibitions and projects include: Palimpsest of voices, Glasgow International (2021), SOM, eins gallery, Limassol, CY (2020), Relations reversed, Thkio Ppalies, Nicosia, CY (2019) accompanied by two parallel events, Of particular images, Intermedia gallery, CCA, Glasgow, UK (2019) accompanied by three events, Phyle, Custom Lane, Edinburgh, curated by Eoin Dara (2018) and Suggestions and Encounters: Physical or Otherwise, The Telfer Gallery, Glasgow, UK, curated by Seán Elder (2018).
