Haustorial

Post-Organic Bauplan is integrated by Josefina Maro, choreographer and performance artist and Salvador Marino, Dr. in Evolutionary Biology and interdisciplinary artist. The duo builds robotic devices that play with the border between the organic and the inorganic and investigate the connection with the human body from a sensitive perspective exploring the somatic possibilities that interaction with robots can open.

During their residency process at Thinker Maker Space the duo was particularly focusing on finding a new method of connection between the robot’s and the performer’s body. Josefina and Salvador turned for inspiration to organisms like leeches, octopuses, parasites, and certain plants, such as haustorium plants, which have in their morphology very effective mechanisms of connection mostly via vacuum systems. Following this idea, they have created their first prototypes of vacuum bells that will be implemented in their new generation of robotic prostheses combining techniques of soft robotics with pneumatics and 3D printed pieces.
