A focused collaboration with Bytheway Productions, where the team supported the company’s ongoing environmentally sensitive design research, which explores biopastes and biodegradable material mixes for the production of design and cultural objects, under the funding programme DiGiNN. TMS provided specialized mentoring, consultation and prototyping to develop a custom mini-extruder, with the collaboration being particularly meaningful as it involved working with designers already familiar with contemporary design and fabrication practices yet extending their skills into the more specialized domain of product development involving complex electronics and software controls.
Drawing on open-source designs and community-built components, TMS supported the team in navigating the mechanical, electronic, and software integrations required for a functional extrusion device. Through iterative digital design, prototyping, and hands-on testing, the project culminated in the in-house fabrication and setup of a demanding machine tailored to Bytheway Productions’ research needs.
