The Future Is Somewhere Here is a serious and fun conversation board-card artist game by resident artist Ål Nik (Alexandra Nikolova). The game addresses people who are interested in exploring potential future scenarios and are open to asking themselves questions about the relation between past, present, and future.
The future is one of the things that excites, worries, and bothers every one of us in some way. Yet, little is realized about how much of a role individuals have in shaping it. Whether through what is designed and created about it, or through what is chosen to be consumed, bought, and supported, the way the present is perceived—either in an active or a passive role—has an impact. All actions or non-actions shape the future. What is already known and what is possible to imagine become the limits of the future designed. A question arises: How aware are people of this?
As part of her residency game Ål Nik organised game sessions, were she invited participants to explore the game and co-create a possible future with their co-players. Everything that each player did affected everyone else and their collective future.
